Epping Forest Guardian

The Epping Forest Guardian is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the town of Epping and other towns and villages in the district of Epping Forest in western Essex and neighbouring parts of the London Borough of Redbridge in north-eastern Greater London, including the towns of Theydon Bois, Loughton, Ongar and Waltham Abbey.

It’s published by Newsquest (West Essex) from editorial offices in Epping.

Along with the Waltham Forest Guardian and the Wanstead & Woodford Guardian, it’s part of a three-title Guardian series whose rather convoluted history (with several name changes, and gained and lost editions) stretches back to 1876; the earliest mention of Epping Forest in a Guardian series title appears to be in 1942.

There’s a companion freesheet, the Epping Forest Independent. In addition, roughly a thousand copies of the Guardian are distributed free via pickup points.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition (free) is also available via the website.
