Cambridge News & Crier Now

The Cambridge News & Crier Now is a weekly freesheet tabloid for the university city of Cambridge and the surrounding small towns and villages to a radius of about four miles, including the towns of Girton and Great Shelford.

It’s published by Cambridge Newspapers Ltd, originally part of the Iliffe News & Media group, and now part of the Local World media group since Iliffe merged with Northcliffe Media in late 2012. It’s a companion to paid-for daily title the Cambridge News. The editorial offices are at Cambridge Newspapers’ headquarters in Milton, on the north-eastern outskirts of the city.

It was launched in 1981. Until the end of May 2009 it was the Cambridge Weekly News, but changed its name to the Cambridge News & Crier with the edition dated 4 June 2009. The change brought it into line with the group’s other freesheets for Huntingdon and St Ives and St Neots, which changed their names in January 2009 after Iliffe acquired Johnston Press‘s Town Crier series for Huntingdonshire and merged it with their own Weekly News editions for the area. In September 2010 Cambridge Newspapers added elements of their Cambridge Now – a free weekly brand-to-hand and pickup paper launched just three months previously – to create the Cambridge News & Crier Now.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition (and archives going back all the way to June 2007) is available free by email or on the website.
