Biggleswade Advertiser

The Biggleswade Advertiser is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes in Biggleswade and neigbouring towns and villages in Mid Bedfordshire, including Sandy, Potton and Gamlingay.

It’s published by Herts & Essex Newspapers, part of the Iliffe News & Media group until Iliffe became part of the new Local World media group on its creation at the end of 2012. It’s part of an Advertiser group that also includes editions for Stevenage and Hitchin.

It was founded in January 1999 by Observer Standard Newspapers (now Bullivant Media) and was one of very few titles of theirs outside the West Midlands region. Iliffe took it on in November 2006 and renamed it The Advertiser (Biggleswade, Potton, Sandy and Gamlingay Edition). It became the Bedfordshire Advertiser in September 2008 in a link-up with Bedfordshire on Sunday (published by LSN Media, another arm of Iliffe) but reverted to the original name after only three issues. (The issue numbering was restarted from scratch at the same time, although it’s never actually ceased publication.)

The main editorial offices are in Milton near Cambridge, although there’s a local office for the group in Hitchin. All three Advertiser editions share a common website.

It comes out on Wednesdays. An e-edition’s also available free via the website.
